OPHTHALMIC HERPIS ZOSTER
INTRODUCTION
It starts with severe neuralgic pains along the supraorbital division of the fifth nerve of one side, sometimes the nasal and rarely the infra-orbital branch of the same nerve. The skin becomes swollen, red, covered herpetic vesicles which unite, crust form upon them, followed by ulcerations which ultimately leave deep cicatrices. With Herpes Zoster, one has to be careful not to infect the eyes. Do not touch the blisters with your hand and then to the eyes. The virus could spread and infect the eyes. Do not put your body under lot of stress and extreme weather condition, and then the virus has the capacity to spread through the nerves and infect the eyes. Herpes Zoster is one of the main causes of blindness. There are medications available to prevent the virus causing harm. See your doctor immediately.
CAUSES
Inflammation of the nerve and gasserrian ganglion belongs to it.
SYMPTOMS
The disease involves one half of the face, nerve extending beyond the median line and is associated with corneal ulcers and iritis. The intense pain that starts with herpetic eruption may last for few hours or over months. It is more often seen in elderly people.
